GGI-Spermex set out to take cattle breeding to a new level. BEAT was to become a digital tool that helps farmers and advisers make well-founded, optimal breeding decisions: data-based, transparent and easy to use.
The vision: to simplify complex breeding processes so that large amounts of data turn into concrete, practical recommendations for maximum breeding progress.
The reality of cattle breeding is demanding. The more advanced a herd is, the harder it becomes to maintain that level or improve it further.
Breeding decisions depend on a wide range of factors, from genetic values and avoiding inbreeding to individual breeding goals. At the same time, this data often comes from different sources that are not always consistent or comparable.
The central challenge: creating a reliable, robust basis for decisions from this heterogeneous data. Without this ‘single source of truth’, a great deal of potential remains untapped or decisions remain uncertain.
It quickly became clear that a simple software solution would not be enough.
The challenge was to process large volumes of data from different sources, map complex genetic relationships and, at the same time, involve different user groups sensibly, from administrators and advisers to farmers.
In addition, Werkdigital took over the project from an existing service provider and developed the solution further from the ground up. An existing structure had to be reworked and turned into a modern, high-performance system.
Werkdigital took on the entire design and development of BEAT and turned it into a powerful, modern software solution.
At its core is an intelligent system that combines benchmarking, mating and herd management. Particular attention was paid to the quality of the calculations: the underlying algorithm was analysed in full, developed further and discussed intensively with the specialist experts, with the clear aim of achieving maximum accuracy and reliability.
This turns different data sources into a consistent and robust basis for decisions. Despite its high complexity, the application remains intuitive to use and delivers results that can be acted on immediately.
Another central aspect is practicality: farmers can manage their animals offline and access all relevant data directly in the barn. As soon as a connection is available again, the data is synchronised automatically.
With BEAT, GGI-Spermex has significantly expanded its offering and taken the digitalisation of breeding advice to a new level.
Today, farmers and advisers benefit above all from a reliable and consistent basis for decisions. Complex data is brought together, interpreted correctly and translated into clear recommendations, regardless of its source.
The combination of high data quality, well-thought-out logic and practical everyday usability creates real added value: from well-founded breeding decisions to efficient work directly in the barn, even without an internet connection.
For GGI-Spermex, this means a clear competitive edge: new digital services strengthen customer loyalty and position the company as an innovative partner in modern cattle breeding.
“Werkdigital took over the BEAT project at a decisive stage and quickly got it back on track. The combination of a structured approach and deep technical understanding made it possible to fundamentally improve the existing solution and develop it further for the future. We were particularly impressed by how quickly the team got to grips with the complex requirements of cattle breeding and turned them into a clear, working solution.”

Benchmarking, mating and herd management combined
Roles for admins, advisers and farmers
Intuitive despite high complexityFarmers manage their animals even without an internet connection and access all relevant data directly in the barn. As soon as a connection is available again, the data synchronises automatically.

All relevant data available at any time
Automatic synchronisation when connectedThe JavaScript-based framework React makes it possible to develop responsive, web-based user interfaces in a very short time.
.NET services enable modern, well-structured back ends that can be developed further at any time without complications.
All data is managed with PostgreSQL, a high-performance object-relational database management system.

As with GGI-Spermex, we translate complex data into clear recommendations that work in practice, right down to the barn. Reserve your free consultation.
