In medical facilities, quality in operation depends not only on proper reprocessing but also on complete proof of it. This is exactly where Miele started: documenting cleaning and disinfection processes was to be made much simpler and more modern.
Instead of paper-based records, a digital solution was needed that captures all relevant information centrally and keeps it available at any time.
This was to create more transparency, simplify processes and reliably meet the growing requirements for documentation and verification.
At the time, many facilities still documented cleaning processes with pen and paper. This took time, left room for errors and led to confusing filing.
Every record had to be kept by hand, archived properly and, when needed, painstakingly pieced together again. At the same time, a quick view of the current status of the devices and of the processes running at that moment was often missing.
For operators, this added up to considerable extra effort, and for Miele it meant a clear task: to provide a contemporary solution.
A digital solution had to fit smoothly into everyday work and communicate directly with the cleaning and disinfection devices.
Behind the scenes, demanding technical processes had to interlock reliably, while on the surface the operation had to be clear and easy to understand. Users were to see at any time which processes are running, which are already completed and where documentation is still outstanding, without having to work their way through complex systems.
At the same time, the solution had to meet the highest standards of stability and data security at all times.
With the DataDiary app, Werkdigital developed a tablet application that adds a digital layer to the cleaning devices and brings all relevant information together in one place.
Via Wi-Fi and a cloud connection, the device data flows into the app, where it is processed and presented clearly. This creates a clear view of ongoing processes, and all completed cleaning cycles can be documented digitally straight away.
Paper-based records are thus replaced completely by seamless documentation that remains available at any time.
Particular attention was paid to intuitive operation, so that the app is quickly to hand in everyday work and can be used safely.
With the DataDiary app, Miele has taken its medical cleaning and disinfection devices a decisive step further.
Digital documentation reduces administrative effort and at the same time creates more transparency and security in ongoing operation. Processes are easier to trace and can be monitored in a targeted way.
There is also a welcome side effect: thanks to the better overview and early detection of relevant processes, service requests are falling, which further reduces operating costs.
In this way, Miele strengthens not only its customers' efficiency but also its own position in the market, supported by a solution that meaningfully combines hardware and digital services.
“It was a solid, goal-oriented collaboration with a trusting, open way of working. I had to contribute and check very little myself; for me it was completely straightforward.”
Miele & Cie. KG is a German manufacturer of domestic and commercial appliances based in Gütersloh, founded as early as 1899.
Alongside high-quality appliances for private households, Miele's Professional range also offers innovative products for commercial and medical use, in compliance with all regulations.
Together with Miele, we analysed how cleaning and disinfection processes are documented in everyday medical work, and where paper-based records cost time and cause errors. This led to the concept of central digital documentation that covers all verification requirements.
